Champalimaud Foundation

Lison, Portugal

The Champalimaud Foundation (CF) is a private, non-profit organisation dedicated to research excellence in biomedical science. Completed in 2010, the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown (CCU) is a state-of-the-art centre for basic and translational research, diagnosis and treatment of diseases from neurological disorders to cancer.

CF provides a unique environment for cutting-edge research designed to reveal new knowledge and develop scientific solutions to medical problems. The CF Research Programme is supported by a diverse set of state of the art Scientific and Technological Platforms that provide word-class scientific services to researchers, such as, the Optical Imaging and Microscopy platform, the Scientific Hardware platform and the Scientific Software and Development platform. With ten specialised units, our main goal is to maximise the focus of CF researchers on research.

Key applications include microbiome research, population cohort studies, and computational social sciences and humanities (SSH). We also coordinate the Open Knowledge Finland Open Science work group, which received Open Science and Research award of the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2017.

Project Contributions

CF will lead WP3 to bring its expertise in the modelling and analysis of collective behavior as well as in the use of Machine Learning and AI methods to develop statistical models for multi- omics data.
